Bishop Brady also offers the opportunity for high school graduates to further their education with a
Postgraduate year to strengthen academic skills, improve study habits and serve as a bridge to collegiate study. The impact of COVID 19 on in person learning in many districts has made this a popular choice. With tuition at boarding schools equivalent to a full year of college, Brady's post graduate day program is both flexible and affordable. Students enrolling in the PG Program can choose to complete between 4 and 7 courses from our Program of Studies. Our unique program provides rigorous academics, numerous extracurricular activities, and college preparation while also allowing students to mature in our welcoming community.
To receive a “Postgraduate Certificate” from Bishop Brady High School, students must enroll in at least four credits with one credit in English, a half-credit in Theology, one credit in a STEM selection, and 1.5 credits of electives.
Why Brady?
Who Benefits from a PG Year?
A PG year can be a great option for a variety of students and situations. Some common examples include:
Students who are academic late-bloomers. A PG year can allow students to build stronger foundations in the classroom before taking the college leap.
Students looking to mature and grow. While going straight from high school to college is the more traditional approach, some students are not quite ready to take this step. Another year before college can be spent maturing physically, academically, and socially.
Students who experienced hardship in high school. There are many circumstances that can impact a student’s high school career (such as illness or a family death). The COVID-19 pandemic is a prime example of an unexpected interruption. A PG year allows this type of student to bounce back and experience success.
Students with dreams of playing sports in college. It can be beneficial on the mind and the body to take a PG year. Students can engage in community-based sports (club and travel teams, Junior Hockey), physical training, and academic preparation to grow stronger in and out of the classroom. This growth can result in being recruited and balancing the demands of a college student-athlete.
Students looking to find the right fit. Many students finish high school not knowing what to do next. A PG year can offer the ability to engage in extracurriculars, service work, and internship opportunities in the hopes of igniting a spark and a passion. School counselors can also provide more focus toward collegiate and career pathways.
