On Thursday November 10, the Veterans Recognition Wall was unveiled at Bishop Brady High School. Members of the Alumni Association worked for over two years to bring this project forward and to recognize alumni of both St. John's Bishop Brady High Schools for their service and sacrifice to our country.
The idea for the project grew out of the Jubilee celebration in June of 2014 when the display which included pictures and a list of the Military Alumni from 1934 to the current date garnered a lot of attention.
The following November, the Alumni Association began the tradition of hosting a Veterans Day Breakfast. They used parts of the Jubilee’s display at the 1st Annual Breakfast. Interest grew and more names and stories were added. The Alumni Association began fundraising and verifying military information. The prototype was made public at the 2nd Annual Breakfast in 2015. The 6’ by 10’ wall display of the flag features the names of alumni veterans on the stripes and the names of POWs and those killed in action in the stars. Since the unveiling, information has been flooding in to both the school and the Alumni Association. The goal is for the Wall to list all Veterans of both St. John and Bishop Brady.
“It is nice to be remembered.”
